Department of Telecommunications issues security clearance to RJIL in six circles
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has given security clearances to Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL) to start its 4G services in six circles. The permission to start services has been given to RJIL in Kolkata, Karnataka, Bihar, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat circles. However, DoT has asked the telecom operator to bridge the gaps in the lawful monitoring requirements and interception of data services, including those offered by Yahoo and Gmail.
In addition, DoT has asked RJIL to install security systems that would enable the government agencies to intercept e-mails, track chat IDs, Internet protocol addresses and voice over Internet protocol calls. Further, DoT reportedly also wants to carry out certain tests after the launch to ensure proper interception and delivery capacity of the monitoring systems.
RJIL holds spectrum in the 1800 MHz band across 14 circles and also has pan-India spectrum in the 2300 MHz band. The company is planning to launch its 4G services in 2015.
